Tianma Telescope (Shanghai 65m Radio Telescope) is a major cooperative project between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Municipality. Tianma telescope is funded in Oct. 2008, completed in Oct. 2012, and passed general acceptance in October 2017. The construction work was successfully accomplished consisting of the antenna system, the L/S/C/X/Ku/K/Ka/Q (1-50GHz) eight-band receiving systems, the active surface system, the back-end system, the station control system, the time-frequency system and auxiliary systems. Due to the application of the active surface system, the efficiency at all bands in all elevation angles is greater than 50 %.

Tianma telescope as the main station of Chinese VLBI Network has participated in and successfully completed the China's Lunar and Mars Exploration Projects, which increased the sensitivity of China VLBI observation network to 1.67 times, greatly improving the observation capacity of the VLBI system with the outstanding contribution on the tracking measurement and orbit determination. The telescope is also making a great progress on radio astronomical observation results to achieve the opening up. Currently, many scientists from different institutes have used the telescope for observations. Tianma telescope has also become the high-sensitivity station of the European VLBI network, the IVS network, the East Asia VLBI network. Tianma telescope has also be used for observation and study of spectral lines and Pulsars. The annual operation time is up to 7000 hours, achieving the international first-class level.
